Congregation Leon de Juda is an urban Latino church on the seam between Boston’s South End and Roxbury. They currently run two Sunday services and woud like to build a new larger Sanctuary over their existing parking lot. The new four story structure will accommodate an entry and parking at the ground level, a new Sanctuary space on levels two and three, and classrooms, offi ces, and a large meeting room the fourth floor.
The primary facade that faces the neighborhood is designed with allusionary references to the life of Christ. Patterns and compositions are symbolic of the incarnation, three years of ministry on earth, the cross, and the resurrection or reconciliation with God. The materials likewise symbolize the natural, supernatural, and the spirit-life in between. The natural is represented by opaque brick, the supernatural by transparent glass, and the spirit-life by glass and metal.
